Berta  Cáceres by  Valeria Yraita-Zevallos Video Transcript:  Honduran environmental and human rights activist, Berta  Cáceres , has left a lasting impact on her community of Lenca and Central America as a whole. Growing up through the violence that occurred in Central America in the 80s and witnessing the social activism of her mother Austra Lopez, helping refugees coming in from El Salvador,  Cáceres  quickly became a student activist herself in the 90s. One of her greatest initiatives as a student was becoming the co-founder of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH).
